The gov’t dock at Shoal Bay is a favorite stop after the passage through Yuculta, Gillard and Dent Rapids.  Most boats arrive together and the Marina owner Mark McDonald opens his wilderness pub.  It’s a special place to make special friends.  This year we met sailors with a greeting from JD in Maple Bay.   Stepha and Sideways Sally became instant soul sisters and dragged everyone back to OMOO for potato salad, ham and smokies.  Lots of laughs later and a book exchange or two we said goodnight and hit the hay for another day on the water.

Another passage at slack tide through Whirlpool Rapids and we’re tucked into Forward Harbor for a quiet, very dark night.   We sleep soooooo good!!  Next stop is Lagoon Cove for fuel and more socializing at the “shed”, the workshop/slash meet up spot.  Sweet fresh prawns are served up by the local crew and stories and  yummy appies are swapped till it’s time for more zzzz’s.  All the sailing and fresh air, throw in a hike or two and we’re zombies.  DSC04466

A chance meeting with another nurse from Vancouver who sailed away to paradise, Jam works at St. Paul’s ER.  She and partner David stopped at Lagoon Cove in a storm and a bowl of chicken soup a few weeks ago, helped Jean Barber with a water problem and never left.  Jean lost her husband Bill four years ago and keeps on looking for someone to luv her place like she and Bill have all these years.  Maybe it will be Dave and Jam!!

Home

A great sail west in Knight Inlet which brought us to a protected cove in Waddington Bay near Echo Bay in time to sit out a gale blowing 30-40 knots SE-SW of the Queen Charlotte Strait.  YES to chess and martini’s with Ken our crew.  Next stop Echo Bay and a hike or dingy over to see Billy Proctor and his museum.

All is good on OMOO as we finish up week 2.
