Places We Missed Before

TOBA INLET 2017

For the last few years OMOO and crew have been exploring above Cape Caution and around Vancouver Island and this summer we stayed local.  Vancouver, Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast and Desolation.

WHAT A TREAT!!  Sideways Sally has so many beautiful pics and videos to catch up on editing that’s it’s gonna take all winter.  In the meantime the Skipper is busy being back to boat projects, reinforcing the bimini to support a wind generator, and fixing stuff that got broken, including the furnace…

I’d like to say this should keep us busy and occupy our minds but we’re already dreaming of next season and seeing more of the magnificent sights on this amazing coast, like Bute and Knight Inlets.

The sail up Toba Inlet is breath taking for the cliffs, snowfields and waterfalls.  We found out most people go up as far as the falls and return to either Wildernest Marina or anchorages like Walsh Cove since the head of the inlet shallows out so quickly and there’s no protection from inflow or outflow winds.   So after checking out all options we found a creative way to anchor in a nook below an old avalanche and literally dropped the hook in debris of fallen logs and rocks.  Then we stern tied to an old logging chain embedded in rock which held us snugly parallel so the shore line.   Ya, we got really lucky the next morning when we hauled anchor with no problem.  It was a special place and we’re so happy to have had such a great time thanks to the Skippers ingenuity and sense of adventure.

THERE’S NEVER A DULL MOMENT ON OMOO!!
