THE WEATHER WILL NOT HOLD US BACK!!
G-Dockers gathered for Happy Hour on a 45′ Hunter last eve. Tons of room to spread out and solve the world’s problems. OR just bullshit our way through the evening. The rain, wind and cold pounded the docks last night, but we were cozy in the belly of our G-Dock neighbors boat.
When the snacks ran out the 1st Mate got busy making a yummy curry and no-one left till it and the wine was gone. Such is the life of a boater. SIGH…..
Since it’s almost the end of March, Sideways and the Skipper are lookin’ back to this time of year in 2011. Sideways got invited for a sail on OMOO by the Skippers ex-girlfriend who was lining up her boyfriend with the next girlfriend.
Seeing SS handle OMOO under sail at 8-9 knots squeeking past Sidney Spit and holding her steady, the Skipper was somewhat taken by the skills and the smile!! So….
One sunny day in spring, SS responded to the Skipper’s request to get some help measuring the anchor chain. Well…. being an eager boater herself and a very useful crew an afternoon of boat slaving ensued!!
Innocently at the end of the day, SS put away the tools and gathered herself together for her trek back the lovely Saltspring Island where she kept her little sailboat and enjoyed that boating community. The Skipper and SS had spent a fair amount of energy toiling under the sun so he offered her a beer, to which she responded by, “are you having one too?”
“Nope” replied the skipper, “then I won’t be able to drive you to the ferry.” SS went below to use the head, sat there thinking, “I don’t need to go to the ferry” and came back to the dock with two beer. She never left the boat….
Life on G-Dock has been a rich experience. So many good friends and good times. We all help eachother through fun times and sad times, through boat happiness and boat disasters. It’s all worth the worry, the wrecked knees, the scrapes and scratches on boats, and the small tears in our hearts when someone leaves.
THE MEMORIES ARE FOREVER. Luv you all G-DOCKERS!!
